Many people ask me what all the different types of terms for healthy, good quality oils mean. Here is a simple breakdown of some terms that we often use to describe a higher quality oil.
It comes from the first pressing of the fruit and it is produced entirely by mechanical means without the use of any heat or chemical solvents. Many places use solvents, such as hexane to extract more oil from the product, which in turns reduces the beneficial properties of the oils.
Means that the oil has been collected from the first mechanical pressing of the fruit or nut.
The oils have not been expelled with chemicals, they are naturally pressed and no heat has been used to extract the oils.
Heat was not used to extract the oil.
Seems to mean that it just does not come from the first pressing of the fruit, you can be assured that it still has not been heated to extract the oil and probably has a more mild flavor.
