Radishes are a cruciferous vegetable along with arugula, cabbage and kale and the word radish actually means root in old English. These cute little roots have many healing properties for our bodies. They are especially good for our livers and digestive system because they have powerful detoxifying chemicals that help support those specific body systems.
They have been known to reduce kidney stones and urinary tract infections; they are a natural diuretic which helps purify the kidneys, thus reduce inflammation. They also help reduce constipation due to the high fiber content.
Radishes do contain many nutrients such as; folate, phosphorus, fiber, vitamin C (cooking destroys vitamin C) and calcium, but keep in mind that they do not contain super high amounts of these nutrients, so it is best to eat them with other vegetables to acquire a synergy of nutrients between other whole foods.
